Denver Pioneers Defeat Minnesota State Mavericks, 10-2

The Denver Pioneers hockey team improved to 3-1 on Saturday night after defeating the Minnesota State Mavericks, 10-2. The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period when Jason Zucker and Joey LaLeggia scored in the first five minutes. Zucker went on to score a second goal in the second period and LaLeggia another one in the third period. Shawn Ostrow scored two goals also.

Daniel Doremus, Scott Mayfield, Jarrod Mermis and David Makowski each scored a goal. Makowski was tied with Ostrow and Drew Shore for the team lead in points with four.

Jean-Paul Lafontaine and Zach Palmquist each scored a power play goal in the third period, but Austin Lee and Phil Cook just couldn't stop the relentless Pioneers attack.

Pioneers goalie Adam Murray stopped 29 of 31 shots while Juho Olkinuora did make two saves in the third period.
