One night after upsetting the No. 1 Boston College Eagles for their first win of the season, the Denver Pioneers added their first loss of the season to the standings with a 4-3 loss to the Boston U. Terriers. The Pioneers made this a competitive game during the final period of play, but fell short.
The Terriers opened the scoring with a goal midway through the first period. Alex Chiasson came up with the goal less than a minute after David Makowski and Justin Courtnall each received two minutes for hitting after the whistle. But the Terriers really got going in the second period when they scored two short-handed goals in the first 1:02 of the frame. Before the third minute was over, Wade Megan netted a power play goal that turned into the game-winner.
Luke Salazar put the Pioneers on board after six minutes had passed in the third period. John Lee added his goal seven minutes later with assists to Nick Shore and Paul Phillips. Drew Shore added his second goal of the season with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Jason Zucker picked up an assist while Joe LaLeggia had his second assist of the game after helping on Salazar's.
Pioneers goaltender Adam Murray made 28 saves on 32 shots.
The Pioneers return home to Magness Arena for a two-game set against Minnesota State next weekend.
