Ty Lawson On Contract Extension With Nuggets: 'It's Going To Be Done Soon'

Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson has steadily improved his game every year since being selected with the No. 18 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, and now Lawson is very confident he will sign an extension with the Nuggets in the near future. After working his way into a starting role in 2011-12, the 24-year-old floor general started all 61 regular season games he played in 2011-12 and posted career-highs in Player Efficiency Rating (19.7 PER), assists per game (6.6), assist rate (30.2 percent) and points per game (16.4).

Although the team recently signed veteran guard Andre Miller to a three-year deal, it's Lawson who figures to be the focal point of the team moving forward. Lawson knows a lucrative extension is coming soon, as he recently told Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post:

"It's definitely going to get done," Lawson said. "I know I want to be here. I know they want me here. I think something is going to be done soon...We've been in meetings actually discussing it. I definitely know it's going to be done soon."

"I've been working hard, trying to elevate my game so I don't let people down. That's my goal. I'm real comfortable here. I love Denver. I want to be here for the next four or five years."

Lawson is eligible to sign an Early Bird extension this summer, as are other point guard from his draft class like Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings, Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks and Jrue Holiday of the Philadelphia 76ers.
