The Denver Nuggets were never really tied to French guard Evan Fournier leading up to this year's draft, making the team's selection of him with the 20th overall pick a fairly surprising outcome. Opinions on the pick appear to be generally mixed at this point, with SI.com's Sam Amick noting that the Nuggets are really adding depth here:
Denver pulls a mild surprise in selecting Fournier, who was seen by most as a late first-round or second-round pick. He's said to be a smooth scorer with a solid penetration game and shooting range. The Nuggets' combination of talent and reasonable contracts gives them a roster of maximum flexibility for trades. Add Fournier to that mix.
The Nuggets passed on some bigger names, including Ohio State's Jared Sullinger, Baylor's Perry Jones III and Kentucky's Marquis Teague, but the 19-year-old Fournier certainly has the ability to be deserving of the No. 20 selection.
