The Denver Nuggets shook things up on Thursday afternoon just minutes before the trade deadline passed with a three-team trade that sent veteran center Nene to the Washington Wizards and brought back 24-year old 7-footer JaVale McGee. Some saw trading Nene as a curious move for Denver, but the Nuggets clearly had second-thoughts about the $65 million contract they gave the oft-injured center this offseason.
Even so, the Nuggets are playing good basketball lately. Denver is 7-3 in its last 10 games, and defeated the Boston Celtics on Saturday. Denver heads into next week at 25-20 overall and in seventh place in the Western Conference playoff standings. The Nuggets are 8.5 games behind the first place Oklahoma City Thunder, and have a one game lead over the Houston Rockets, who sit in the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.
