NBA Standings 2012: Denver Nuggets Hold Sixth-Best Record In The West

Throughout just over 40 games, the Denver Nuggets currently hold the sixth-best record in the Western Conference at 23-18 on the season. While they're nine games out of first place in the conference, it's conceivable that they could move up a few spots in the tight standings.

While the Oklahoma City Thunder are clearly the cream of the Western Conference crop at 32-9, the No. 2 seeded San Antonio Spurs are just four games ahead of the Nuggets in the standings. A major winning or losing streak could easily send the Nuggets shooting up or down the standings given how closely the teams are packed.

Four games back of the Spurs, the Nuggets are also just 1.5 games back of the third-seeded Los Angeles Clippers, so it wouldn't take much for them to land the No. 4 seed. Denver can't get a top-3 seed without winning the division, which is basically impossible given how good Oklahoma City is.
