NBA MVP 2012 Power Rankings: Nuggets Lack MVP Candidate

The Denver Nuggets are in a tough spot at the beginning of February. The team got off to a hot start, but the team is on a recent three-game skid. Now at 15-10, the Nuggets are still in second place in the Northwest division, but they are now five games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. The losses aside, the Nuggets are doing this without a true MVP candidate.

Yet, the Nuggets are now dealing with plenty of injuries, leaving Ty Lawson as the only starter playing for the team. Nene, Arron Afflalo and Timofey Mozgov are out for a little bit, and Danilo Gallinari is out for at least a month with a bad ankle sprain. Lawson, already playing a strong season, will need to step up his game even more. If he does, he could start making SB Nation NBA MVP rankings.

This week, though, the Nuggets have no one in the top 10 or anywhere in the picture. LeBron James and Kevin Durant are Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in Tom Ziller's SB Nation 2012 NBA MVP Power Rankings. Durant moved up a spot, overtaking Kobe Bryant.
