Could The New Jersey Nets Re-Enter Carmelo Anthony Trade Saga?

While New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov called off the proposed three-team trade for Carmelo Anthony on Jan. 20, is it possible the Nets and the Nuggets will decide to work something out? Prokhorov sounded pretty sure that wouldn't happen when he said that he doesn't deal in the subjunctive, which is to say that he wouldn't have the Nets re-initiate the trade or discuss it again.

However, the New York Post, for what it's worth, reports that league executives believe the Nets are still a trade partner for the Nuggets, and several in the Nets front office believe they will take calls from their Nuggets counterparts soon enough.

If the Nets and the Nuggets do start talking again, would the previous deal still be in place? In that deal the Nuggets would have received from the Nets two first-round draft picks, rookie forward Derrick Favors and point guard Devin Harris. The Nets would have received Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups from the Nuggets and Richard Hamilton from the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons would have taken on the expiring contract of Troy Murphy and a draft pick. Additional pieces were included to make the salaries work out.

Given that they pulled out of this trade once before as a result of the Nuggets dragging negotiations out, the Nets need not offer such generous terms again.
