NBA Rumors 2011: Arron Afflalo, Denver Nuggets Closer To New Contract, According To Report

The Denver Nuggets are on a roll on Tuesday and it might just continue for a bit longer. The Nuggets and restricted free agent are moving closer to a new contract, according to CBS Sports' Ken Berg. Afflalo had flirted with the idea of signing with another team, but the Nuggets have the right to counter any contract that he is offered. Instead, signing a new deal eases any concerns of having to match a large contract.

As Berg notes, the Nuggets acquired Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer on Tuesday, both swingmen who could cut into Afflalo playing time. Fernandez has reportedly been upset over his playing time in Portland, which had him shipped out to Dallas in June, and what he would have received with the Mavericks had he remained with the team. He might not like what he'll receive in Denver, either.
