The Charlotte Bobcats defeated the Denver Nuggets, 100-98, keeping Denver coach George Karl stuck on win No. 999.
Going for the milestone victory in the state he played collegiate ball against one of his best friends in Bobcats coach Larry Brown, Karl wasn't able to help the Nuggets shooting woes, as the team went a combined 31-73, 42.5% from the field in the loss.
The loss also snapped the Nuggets seven-game win streak.
Though leading scorers Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony scored 25 and 22, respectively, their 13-of-34 shooting crippled the Nuggets. The bright spot shooting was J.R. Smith, who went 5-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point land. Smith finished with 14.
Charlotte, which shot 50 percent from the field on 39-of-78 shooting, was led in scoring by Stephen Jackson's 23. Jackson also tied Gerald Wallace, who scored 20, for the team high in rebounds with nine.
Karl will go for win No. 1,000 Wednesday evening when the Nuggets visit the Boston Celtics.
