Report: Nuggets, Nets Working On Multiteam Trade For Carmelo Anthony

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Denver Nuggets and the New Jersey Nets are discussing a new Carmelo Anthony trade proposal. This trade would, Wojnarowski's source claims, lead Anthony to sign an extension with the Nets:

Anthony is inclined to accept a trade and contract extension with New Jersey over his preferred choice of New York only if the Nets are able to bring back a package of significant talent with him, league sources involved in the talks said on Monday.

However, there is much still left to be determined. The Nuggets' power forward, Al Harrington, is the only new name to emerge in this deal. The Nets would still send rookie Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy and multiple first-round picks. The other teams or other players involved are not yet known.

However, Wojnarowski posits that three other players could be on the move in this possible deal: Nets point guard Devin Harris and the Nuggets' Chauncey Billups and J.R. Smith. Billups is averaging 14.4 points, his lowest since the 2001-02 season with the Timberwolves (12.5). Second-year player Ty Lawson has filled in nicely for Billups, who is currently out with a wrist injury. Trading Billups in any possible deal.

If such a deal between the Nuggets, the Nets and as-of-yet unnamed teams emerges, Wojnarowski's sources believe a deal early in January 2011 is possible.
