When the news that Denver would be getting a new Central Hockey League team hit the press wire, the speculations about an affiliation between the newly formed Cutthroats and the Colorado Avalanche began. On Thursday, it became official.

The Cutthroats have announced that the team will join the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL as a source for prospect development and player relief for the Avalanche.

"We're humbled, thrilled, and excited to be a part of the Avalanche family," said Cutthroats Head Coach Derek Armstrong. "They're a first-class organization with a rich tradition and two Stanley Cups. Our job is to support their players and hockey operations department however they need and that's what we are here to do. We're all looking forward to working with them."

Starting in 2012-2013, the Avalanche will be able to assign current players and prospects to the CHL team. Moreover, players on the Cutthroats' roster can be sent to play for both the Avalanche and the Monsters. Armstrong will work with Avs' Vice President of Player Development, Craig Billington, to determine the needs of the Avalanche organization and what moves would most benefit all three teams.

"This agreement gives our organization the ability to develop and monitor our prospects in an efficient and effective manner," said Billington. "We look forward to having some of our players join the Denver Cutthroats in their inaugural season."

The Denver Cutthroats will be playing at the Denver Coliseum. Their season starts in October. Season ticket packages are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (303) 295-FISH (3474). The most up-to-date information can be found at
