During the second quarter of Denver's game against the Atlanta Falcons, Peyton Manning found himself passing his boss in a strange record category -- most pass attempts by a quarterback. Manning hit the 7,251st pass attempt of his long career, which put him over Elway and into third place on the all-time list.
So, in the second quarter, Manning passed Elway for 3rd on the "most pass attempts" list.

Manning had the advantage of playing in a pass-first offense his entire tenure in Indianapolis, which clearly helped him pile up the pass attempts in his career. He still has a long way to go if he wants to rise any further in the rankings, with two big names ahead of him -- Dan Marino's 8,358 passes and Brett Favre's 10,169 passes will be almost impossible numbers to beat unless he plays another several years in the league.
