The Denver Broncos will limit veteran running back Willis McGahee's carries this year, according to a Sporting News Report.
McGahee had 16 carries to Knowshon Moreno's five in Denver's 31-19 win over Pittsburgh in Week 1. McGahee had 64 yards with a long run of 12. Moreno scored the Broncos' lone rushing touchdown and had 12 yards.
While one game may not be sufficient evidence to make that kind of claim, McGahee is on the wrong side of 30 (will turn 31 in October), and the team may want to save his legs to get him to last through the season.
Moreno, a first round pick in 2009, has been a disappointment to this point in his career, but it could be an opportunity for him to prove his worth. The Broncos' game plan wasn't to run the ball very much against the usually stout Steelers defense. They may lean a bit more on the run in their Week 2 game against Atlanta, in an effort to keep their powerful offense off the field.
