Denver Broncos Depth Chart Update: Veteran Mike Adams Elevated To Starting Free Safety

The Denver Broncos made a few of minor adjustments to their depth chart on Monday afternoon, as the knee injury to safety Quinton Carter continues to test the depth of head coach John Fox's secondary heading into the team's second preseason game. According to CBSSports.com's Broncos Rapid Report, veteran Mike Adams is now the team's starting free safety:

Five-time Pro Bowler Keith Brooking was also elevated to the third team, as the 36-year-old linebacker hopes to further his career after signing a deal with the Broncos in early August. Brooking was initially expected to provide more leadership than depth when Denver brought him into the fold on August 6, but looks to be working his way into serious playing time with a strong camp.

The odd-man-out in the equation at the moment, Quinton Carter remains on the sidelines at practice nursing a knee injury. Although Carter did run through mental drills on Monday for the first time since having his knee scoped, it's clear that he'll have to beat out Adams over the next few weeks to win his starting job back.
