The Denver Broncos have a few veteran players they would like to negotiate deals with before the season starts, but apparently kicker Matt Prater is near the top of the list. Left tackle Ryan Clady has shown up for organized team activities while he awaits a new deal, but Prater and defensive tackle Ty Warren have been conspicuous no-shows to the voluntary portion of OTAs (mandatory OTAs begin on June 12). According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Broncos are busy negotiating a five-year contract with Prater at the moment. Here is what Klis had to say:
The Broncos have made progress in recent days with Prater on a five-year deal. The team tendered him a 2012 salary of $2.6 million through the franchise tag. Both sides hope a long-term deal is reached in time for Prater to join the Broncos at their mandatory minicamp June 12-14.
The team wants Warren to take a pay cut from his $4 million salary figure in 2012 down to somewhere around the $1 million to $1.5 million range, and if Warren doesn't agree to the reduction or otherwise refuses to show at mandatory OTAs the team may consider moving on without him.
