Montana Grizzlies inside linebacker Caleb McSurdy was taken in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys with pick No. 222. McSurdy will complete Dallas' draft.
At Montana, McSurdy was an all-conference performer in the Big Sky and the 2011 Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year. As a senior, McSurdy tallied 130 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. McSurdy had 112 tackles as a junior.
McSurdy has been characterized as an instinctive player who lacks foot speed. He ran a 4.82 40-yard dash at the combine. In a best case scenario, McSurdy will spend his rookie season as a member of the 53-man roster and contribute as a special teams player. The road is long and tough, but McSurdy can surely do it.
