2012 NFL Draft Results: Chiefs Add Illinois OL Jeff Allen

The Kansas City Chiefs have made their second-round selected and opted for Illinois Fighting Illini offensive lineman Jeff Allen. He played tackle for the Illini, but Will Shields announced him as a guard.

On Thursday night, the Chiefs used its first-round draft pick on Memphis Tigers defensive tackle Dontari Poe, the 11th overall pick. While that selection was viewed by many as a boom-or-bust pick, this is a solid selection that fits a general need for the team.

SB Nation Kansas City likes the pick for the versatility Allen brings to the offensive line.

Allen is the third Illinois player drafted so far, joining Whitney Mercilus and A.J. Jenkins, the latter being a bit of a surprise pick of the first round to the San Francisco 49ers at No. 30 overall.
