Denver Broncos safety Brian Dawkins has announced his retirement from the NFL, but don't expect the team to let this fade away in the lead up to the 2012 NFL Draft later this week. We should expect a press conference in the next day or two, reports the Denver Post's Mike Klis:
The Broncos will treat Brian Dawkins retirement the right was. Even in draft week, expect a major press conference, prob tomorrow or Wed

This news shouldn't change how the Broncos approach the draft at the end of the week. The team already brought in Mike Adams through free agency to shore up the safety position. Also, the Broncos have been expected to draft a safety at some point in proceedings because Dawkins' retirement -- either this season, as it turned out, or one year later -- has been a topic of discussion since the end of the 2011 season.
