Broncos Free Agency 2012: Ex-Bears QB Caleb Hanie To Visit Denver

With Tim Tebow all but assuredly on his way out of Denver, the Denver Broncos have to address their quarterback depth behind Peyton Manning. Manning is of course coming off of four neck surgeries, and as such Denver's depth at quarterback may be more important than that of any other position for any other team in the NFL.

So, the quarterback rumors (non-Manning, non-Tebow category) will begin to fly in the Mile High City, and it all begins with ex-Chicago Bears QB Caleb Hanie, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago. Hanie, who played college football for the Colorado State Rams, was the primary back up to Jay Cutler in Chicago last season, but after four disastrous starts in which he compiled a quarterback rating of 41.8 he was benched and released after the season.

Hanie had a chance to shepherd the Bears into the playoffs last season, but he failed that test miserably, and he would certainly inspire little to no confidence amongst Broncos fans. But with $18 million committed to Manning next year and with other positions still to be upgraded, depth at quarterback is going to have to come on the cheap.
