Free agent quarterback Peyton Manning zoomed into Denver on owner Pat Bowlen's private jet and left without making a comment to the media, but at this point everyone knows the Broncos and head of football operations John Elway are highly interested in signing the future Hall of Famer. Money is not an obstacle for Bowlen and the Broncos at this point, so it all comes down to whether Manning sees the team as a good fit.
Elway's former teammate and current CBS analyst, Shannon Sharpe, weighed in on the situation and thinks he knows the motivation behind the pursuit. It's not good news for Tim Tebow fans, based on the quotes Sharpe gave to Mike Klis of The Denver Post:
"This is all about John Elway. This shows me he believes the way to get back to the Super Bowl is with a franchise guy. He knows that winning a Super Bowl with a marginal quarterback, those days are over. You've got to have that guy. The days of Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson and Mark Rypien, those guys are not winning Super Bowls anymore."
"I'm excited," Sharpe said. "I'm happy. But I'm also shocked. I know John Elway wants to win, but this is putting all your chips on the table."
Manning is headed to Arizona next, so now it all comes down to the strength of the Broncos' situation in comparison to other interested teams around the NFL.
