The AFC West lead thinned out a bit after the weekend's action. It went from a three-team tie to just a two-game tie, but even that looks tenuous. The Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers are at the top of the standings, but the Raiders look like the better team right now. They opened the season on the road with a victory against the Denver Broncos, lost a close one against the surprising 3-0 Buffalo Bills and sent the Jets to defeat on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Chargers needed a second half comeback against the Minnesota Vikings to open the season and then lost to the New England Patriots in a shootout. They barely held on to 20-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, needing Matt Cassel to thrown interception at the end of the game.
The Broncos dropped out of their tie for first place following the loss to the Tennessee Titans. The Chiefs, as previously mentioned, lost to the Chargers and remain winless.
For this coming week, the Broncos have the hardest test as they are on the road to face the Green Bay Packers. The Chiefs play the 0-3 Vikings, which could end in a tie with the way both have played. San Diego plays the winless Miami Dolphins and Oakland hosts the New England Patriots, who lost to the Bills on Sunday.
Here are the current standings:
