Denver Broncos Roster Cuts Include Nate Jones

The Denver Broncos reached the 80-player roster limit on Monday, a day before the actual deadline. The team released or waived seven players to reach the limit.

Cornerback Nate Jones was the released, which was predictable. Jones was continually beat in the passing game during the first two preseason games, often allowing the other team to score a touchdown. Jones had been listed as Andre Goodman's backup at the right cornerback position, but now that will need to be filled.

Among the other cuts were running back C.J. Gable, linebacker Braxton Kelley, linebacker Deron Mayo, guard Shawn Murphy, tackle Curt Porter and defensive end David Veikune. All of these players were either listed at third on the depth chart or below.

The next roster deadline is Sept.3, when teams must be down to 53 players.
