Denver Broncos Had Placed Waiver Claim On Kentwan Balmer, But Panthers Awarded Player

The Denver Broncos really do like to collect former first-round talent. Except this time the Broncos lost out on a waiver claim to the Carolina Panthers. Defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer had been waived by the Seattle Seahawks a couple of days ago and is now a Panther, according to the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.

Had the Panthers not put in a claim, the Broncos would have won out over the Washington Redskins since Denver is No. 2 on the waiver wire during the preseason. Balmer would have fit in with Derrick Harvey, Brodrick Bunkley and Ty Warren, all former first-round picks (the latter the only one to have success in the league).

Balmer was the 29th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He played 27 games in San Francisco over two seasons and had no impact at all. He moved to the Seattle Seahawks in 2010 for a sixth-round pick and started in 11 of 16 games. He has yet to record a sack and has not helped stop the run.
