At 2 p.m. MT, Kyle Orton's $1.5 million roster became active, according to the National Football Posts' Andrew Brandt. He believes that makes an Orton trade unlikely at this point, but who knows a few weeks from now. Maybe Matt Moore performs poorly and Chad Henne does as well. The Dolphins might come calling again.
Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter spoke with Orton earlier on Friday and the quarterback told him that a trade with the Dolphins was "dead." Mike Klis of the Denver Post followed a little bit later that the issue over the proposed Orton trade was his contract. The two teams had settled on compensation, but Orton's need to negotiate a new contract hampered efforts.
For now, Orton remains the Broncos' starting quarterback, but with camp just starting teams could be looking to change their starter soon. Orton will surely remain high atop the list of potential trade targets.
