Robert Ayers Changes Back To Old (NFL) Number

With the first practice of Denver Broncos training camp taking place on Thursday, Robert Ayers decided to change from jersey No. 56 to No. 91. No big deal, right? Ayers is back on the defensive line so that number fits better for him.

Well, not so fast, Ronald Fields tweeted to Ayers that he was unhappy about the move (click the above link for the full tweet as Field's account is private). But Ayers went out and went through the team's first practice as No. 91, his jersey number in college football.

And then later in the day, Reebok, who produces the jerseys, told him that he need to change back to his old number. Ayers had agreed to pay Reebok the lost money over the jerseys that had his old number.  Later in the day, Reebok decided to raise the asking price, which was too much for Ayers. He is back to No. 56 for now, but as Lindsay Jones suggests the switch to the new number will be easier in 2012 when Nike produces the NFL's jerseys.
