Broncos Miss Out On RB DeAngelo Williams As He Agrees To New Deal With Panthers, According To Report

The Denver Broncos and Willis McGahee may be closer to consummating a deal now that top running back DeAngelo Williams has reportedly agreed to a five-year, $43 million deal. NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports that Williams will receive $21 million dollars in guaranteed money. The Broncos would never have been able to give him that money, so it was best to move on.

Williams was considered a strong possibility for the Broncos because of his connection with John Fox, his coach for the entirety of his career in Carolina until he was let go at the end of the 2010 season. Williams would have been the feature back and helped by Knowshon Moreno.

Now the Broncos will likely pursue Willis McGahee with great intent. He would help the Broncos in the red zone, something that they struggled with on the ground last season. Moreno, though, wants to prove that he is capable of carrying the ball in every situation.

The dominoes could start falling soon.
