Falcons Inquired About Broncos' No. 2 Pick In 2011 Draft

The Atlanta Falcons made the jump of the draft when they moved from No. 27 all the way to No. 21. That involved trading five picks to Cleveland Browns (No. 27, No. 59 and No. 124 in 2011 and first- and fourth-round selections in 2012). The Falcons sent that potential treasure trove to the Browns so they could select Alabama WR Julio Jones, who would have been far gone once pick No. 27 came up.

Now word comes that the Falcons tried to move up all the way to the No. 2 overall pick, which the Broncos controlled. Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff was on PFT Live on Monday and said as much. The Broncos would likely have received another pick, maybe a high selection in 2012.

Even with the extra picks in 2011 and 2012 that would have been acquired, John Elway, John Fox and Brian Xanders made a good choice in sticking with the No. 2 pick. Having Von Miller appears to be a better choice than any of the defensive lineman they could have selected with the 27th pick (Muhammad Wilkerson and Cameron Heyward went around that area).
