Tim Tebow Receives Vote of Confidence From John Elway

One of the underlying story lines for the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft is whether the Denver Broncos will select a quarterback. But based on recent comments by John Elway, we shouldn't expect the Broncos to draft a quarterback in the first round on Thursday night.

Kyle Orton is not the long-term answer for the team and Tim Tebow is a holdover from the Josh McDaniels era. Orton has been proclaimed over the last few months the starter if a game were to be played the day those comments were made. John Elway has spoken highly of Tim Tebow, but not without couching it in language that hesitated to name him the future starter. But now things may be changing.

In a recent conversation with ESPN's Ed Werder, Elway said, "Let's put it this way, I'm his biggest fan." And later: "I think where we are as an organization, we're going to go with Tim." But just like previous comments, Tebow needs to earn it during training camp ... if there is one.

So while the Broncos did look at many of the top quarterbacks, I think that's more a result of John Elway being a quarterback himself. I wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos used a draft pick on a quarterback on the final day, possibly acquiring a fourth or fifth round pick to do so.
