Several weeks ago, there was a rumor that the Denver Broncos were talking with two teams who wanted to acquire the No. 2 overall pick. One was the Arizona Cardinals. The other was Mike Shanahan and his Washington Redskins. It now appears that the Redskins do want to move up to that draft spot. According to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, there are general managers who believe the Redskins will try to acquire the No. 2 pick so they can grab Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
It's interesting to think about such a trade. Shanahan is a former Broncos coach and he'd likely be dealing not only with Broncos GM Brian Xanders but with his former star QB, John Elway. However, as Mike Klis of the Denver Post points out, the Broncos have not taken any phone calls this week and that the still uncertain labor situation would make teams hesitant to make trades. And if the Redskins can grab Gabbert at No. 10, an eight-spot jump to get him wouldn't make sense.
