Washington Huskies quarterback Jake Locker will have three private workouts to help teams make their final decisions on him. Those three workouts are for the Minnesota Vikings, the Tennessee Titans and, yes, the Denver Broncos, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora. The Vikings and the Titans make sense since Brett Favre retired and Vince Young is no longer with the Titans. Both teams are definitely in the general area Locker will be drafted (No. 8 and No. 10). SB Nation's own 2011 NFL Mock Draft, Locker went No. 10 to the Washington Redskins.
But the Broncos? Tim Tebow will enter his second year in the league after being the 25th overall pick in the 2010 draft's first round. And Kyle Orton is supposedly the starter if a game were played today. Granted, Tebow is a Josh McDaniels regime pick, so he could be traded. But would it be wise for the Broncos to trade one young quarterback in order to accommodate another young developmental quarterback on the roster?
The team would also need to trade down to get Locker since the No. 2 selection would be poor value for him. Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert are considered the top two quarterbacks and both could be gone by the No. 3 pick.
Maybe this is all a smokescreen to increase the value of all the quarterbacks in the draft, allowing the Broncos to trade back, take the player they want somewhere in the bottom of the top 10 and acquire an additional pick or two as well. The NFL Draft takes placed April 28-30.
