Tim Tebow Statue At University Of Florida To Go Up During Team's Spring Game

Last June the University of Florida announced that the school would honor Tim Tebow, Steve Spurrier and Danny Wuerffel, all Heisman Trophy winners, with bronze statues. Now word comes that the statues will be unveiled on April 9 at halftime of the school's spring game.

Tebow has already been honored once with a campus plaque that has "The Promise" written on it. You know, the promise Tebow gave the day after his Gators dropped a game to the Ole Miss Rebels? The one he ended with: "You will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season. God bless."

He and the Gators went on to win 10 games in a row, mostly in blowout fashion, and a BCS National Championship. And this plaque went up early in 2009--while Tebow was still a member of the team with one more season to go.

SB Nation Atlanta offers an amusing idea of what the statue will look like: Tebow's statue will have a halo, but its stigmata tears will just be regular ole sad tears." Apparently those jokes never get old.
