2011 Heisman Trophy Winner Robert Griffin III Joins Tim Tebow, Frank Sinkwich As Foreign-Born Recipients

Robert Griffin III, 2011 Heisman Trophy winner, is the son of two parents who are sergeants in the United States Army. He was born in Okinawa, Japan, when his parents were stationed there in 1990. Griffin, though, is not the only foreign-born player among the Heisman winners.

Nineteen forty-two Heisman Trophy winner Frank Sinkwich, a halfback for the Georgia Bulldogs, was born in Croatia, and former Florida Gators quarterback and current Denver Broncos starter Tim Tebow was born in the Philippines. He was born in Makati City, where his parents served as missionaries.
