When the Denver Broncos lost both Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno early in the first quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Lance Ball had to step in, which he did in a big way. He had 30 carries for 96 yards in the Tim Tebow read-option offense.
As it stands on Tuesday morning, Ball is the backup to Willis McGahee. However, McGahee is battling a hamstring injury, which isn't expected to keep him out of the lineup. Still, Ball would be the first running back to take over for McGahee should the injury prevent him from taking the field.
Ball took over for Knowshon Moreno as the backup once a torn ACL ended his season. Jeremiah Johnson took Moreno's roster spot on Monday and will be third on the depth chart.
Smart fantasy owner might want to take a chance on Ball even if McGahee is ready to go on Thursday against the New York Jets because the team is preponderantly aiming toward a rush-first offense.
