With the Denver Broncos squarely in the race for an AFC West title, injuries to key personnel are the last thing they can afford. Unfortunately, according to the Denver Post, Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno is likely to miss an extended period of time following a knee injury in the victory over the Kansas City Chiefs:
Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno and Willis McGahee left the game against the Chiefs today with injuries in the first quarter and Moreno is unlikely to play when Denver hosts the New York Jets on Thursday night.
Moreno, who had a spectacular, tackler-hurdling 24-yard run on the opening drive, suffered a sprained ligament in his right knee. Moreno will have an MRI exam Monday to determine if there's a tear, but the initial diagnosis was he will be sidelined for a while.
While the loss of Moreno will be tough for the Broncos to swallow, the team did receive potentially good news on Willis McGahee:
McGahee suffered a strained hamstring on his fourth carry of the Broncos' opening drive.
"I'll be all right," McGahee said. "I could have come back in in an emergency situation."
