At the end of the first half of the 201 East-West Shrine Game, the East roster held a 19-8 lead on two rushing touchdowns, a safety and a field goal. Syracuse running back Delone Carter and Penn St. running back Evan Royster each rushed for a touchdown. Idaho quarterback Nathan Enderle had the only passing touchdown when he connected with Portland State tight end Julius Thomas for a five-yard reception. The two then hooked up for a successful two-point conversion attempts.

The only touchdown of the second half came with 3:41 left in the game. Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson, of the West roster, rushed the ball, but ran into Tennessee defensive end Chris Walker, who forced a fumble. North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin recovered the ball at the West's three-yard line and brought it into the end zone for a touchdown. Austin did not play a single snap for the Tar Heels this season because he was suspended for interaction with an agent.

The East's quarterbacks included Virginia Tech's Tyrod Taylor (4-of-5, 59 yards), Delaware's Pat Devlin (2-of-7, 22 yards, 1 INT) and Navy's Ricky Dobbs (5-of-10, 51 yards). Delone Carter led the East in rushing with 54 yards on 11 carries. Texas wide receiver Greg Smith caught four passes for 77 yards.
