John Fox And Broncos Consider Saints' Dennis Allen For Defensive Coordinator

During their head coaching search, the Denver Broncos briefly considered New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams as a candidate--that is, until he declined to interview for the job. Maybe John Fox and the Broncos believe they'll be able to find a defensive coordinator down in the Bayou.

The Denver Post reports that the Broncos have already interviewed the Saints' secondary coach, Dennis Allen. Allen finished his fifth season with the Saints this season, his third season as the secondary coach. He was an assistant defensive line coach for his first two seasons there.

In Allen's three seasons as the secondary coach, the Saints' defense has shown a propensity to force turnovers via the interception.

Allen is also reportedly under consideration for the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator position.

Jay Glazer reports that Allen is the heir apparent to Williams in New Orleans. That could happen soon, given teams' interest in Williams as a head coach this offseason.
