2011 NFL Pro Bowl Roster: Broncos' Champ Bailey An Alternate For AFC Team

The Denver Broncos could have a second Pro Bowler this season if one of the current cornerbacks on the team is unable to participate. Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey would be the first player named should a spot become available, interim coach Eric Studesville said today:

Bailey currently has a heel injury that could keep him out of Sunday's season finale. If he did take a spot on the AFC roster, Bailey would be a 10-time Pro Bowler. Not including this year, Bailey has missed making the Pro Bowl in two seasons: his 1999 rookie campaign with the Washington Redskins and in 2008 when he played in only nine games due to injury.

Earlier this season, Bailey tied Dennis Smith for sixth all-time with 30 interceptions as a member of the Denver Broncos, but a looming cloud lingers over Bailey. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and all indications are that Bailey will leave Denver. The Broncos and Bailey's agent had been in discussion for a contract extension earlier in the year, but those ended abruptly when the Broncos pulled out of negotiations.
