Colorado Power Rankings: Denver Broncos, Colorado Buffaloes Introduce Eric Studesville, Jon Embree

Both the Colorado Buffaloes and the Denver Broncos have new coaches this week, but it will take more than a new man at the top to help these teams move up in the rankings.

It was quite the week in Colorado sports. A coach fired, a coach hired, a coach going for a milestone and a coach collapsing. Oh, and there were games played throughout the week as well. See how it all shook out over the last week.

8. Colorado State Rams

Last weeks' CPR: 7

The Rams basketball team recently lost to the CU Buffs.

7. Denver Broncos

Last week's CPR: 8
Fan Confidence Score: 41

Josh McDaniels was fired and Eric Studesville became the new interim head coach. Plenty of fans are breathing a sigh of relief now that McD is gone, while others believe this will breed long-term instability with the team.

With four games left, this team still looks head for a top-five draft pick. Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals will tell us much about how this team will respond to Eric Studesville over the remaining games.

6. Colorado Buffaloes

Last week's CPR: 6
Fan Confidence Score: 86

Jon Embree was brought in as the new football head coach and Eric Bieniemy became his offensive coordinator. It's a new era for the Colorado football team as they move to the Pac-12. Fans are certainly feeling better about the Buffs.

Both the men's and the women's basketball teams beat their Colorado State counterparts on Wednesday night.

5. Colorado Avalanche

Last week's CPR: 5
Fan Confidence Score: 62

The Avalanche are winners of one game in their last seven and have lost three of their last four games in overtime. They are second in the Northwest division behind the Vancouver Canucks, but if the season ended today their 30 points would keep them out of the playoffs. Still, this team has a league-best 3.4 goals per game.

4. Denver Nuggets

Last week's CPR: 3
Fan Confidence Score: 74

A week ago the Nuggets were on a five-game win streak that was about to reach seven games after victories over the Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies. Those two victories put head coach George Karl at 999 career wins. It hasn't been easy over the last two games, going down in defeat to the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday and then losing to the Boston Celtics the next day.

Oh, and don't forget that Carmelo Anthony, who is in a slump of late, may or may not be traded before the Feb. deadline.

3. Colorado Rockies

Last week's CPR: 2
Fan Confidence Score: 73

A week after the Colorado Rockies signed Troy Tulowitzki to a mega-deal and also brought back pitcher Jorge De La Rosa, there was still some noise to be made this past week. The Rockies signed Ty Wigginton, who by no means is a world-beater but provides versatility around the infield. The Rockies discussed trading for the Texas Rangers' Michael Young, though that didn't get very far. Manager Jim Tracy collapsed during the winter meetings but appears to be fine now.

When does baseball start?

2. Air Force Falcons

Last week's CPR: 4

2010 Independence Bowl bound! The Air Force Falcons will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Dec. 27 in Shreveport, La. Both teams run the triple option, which means this game may see all of ten passes between the two teams.

1. Colorado Rapids

Last week's CPR: 1
Fan Confidence Score: 98

Not much going on here. A championship will keep a team at the top for some time. Anyway, it looks like last week Fan Confidence rating (65) was a blip as fans are feeling much better about the team.
