The Colorado State Rams received just one vote in the Associated Press preseason men's basketball poll, a season after making a surprise appearance in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Rams would lose to Murray State in the second round, 58-41, with coach Tim Miles then departing to become the head coach at Nebraska.
The Rams, under new coach Larry Eustachy, will have tough competition in the Mountain West Conference in 2012-13. UNLV, who finished the 2011-12 season at No. 23 in the AP poll before losing to Colorado in the the NCAA Tournament, will open the season at No. 18 in the preseason poll.
San Diego State sits at No. 20 in the rankings heading into the season, finishing the 2011-12 season at No. 22 in the AP poll. The Aztecs also lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, a 79-65 loss to North Carolina State.
New Mexico, similar to Colorado State, missed out on the Top 25 while receiving nine votes.
