The Rocky Mountain Showdown pits the Colorado Buffaloes against the Colorado St. Rams once again at Sports Authority Field at Mile High when the teams take the field on Saturday afternoon. Colorado is on a two-game winning streak and has gone 12-5 since this rivalry game became an annual event in 1995.
Colorado went 3-10 during Jon Embree's first year at the helm and certainly looking to improve on that this fall. However, he does have a less-experienced team with him this season, perhaps playing 10-plus freshmen during this season. Jordan Webb has taken over the quarterback position from Tyler Hansen, and though he transferred to the school in July, Webb has picked up the offense quickly and started for the Kansas Jayhawks. He will, however, be doing it without Paul Richardson, who will redshirt this season.
Colorado State embarks on its inaugural season with Jim McElwain as head coach. McElwain was hired in December but stayed on with the Alabama Crimson Tide through the BCS title victory. His first offseason with the team was not without its bumps, namely dismissing several players, including Nordly Capi and Michael Orakpo, for off-the-field incidents. But now McElwain is ready for quarterback Garrett Grayson and linebacker Shaquil Barrett to lead the team to something better than a 3-9 record, which is how the team has finished in each of the last three seasons.
Can the Rams pick up a signature win in McElwain first game or will Jon Embree start his second year with Ralphie running all over Cam?
