The Air Force Falcons have been granted one final chance for redemption in Thursday's Mountain West Tournament game against the New Mexico Lobos. The Falcons dropped each of the their last two contests against the Lobos by an average of 34.5 points, and will be desperately looking to avoid a similar fate.
Junior leading scorer Michael Lyons (15.5 points per game) has struggled to find his shot in the past few weeks, and has shot just 32.7% over his last four games. Lyons will be counted on for a strong performance if Air Force plans to stay within striking distance.
The key to the game for the Falcons is to find a way to slow down the pace and get New Mexico senior forward Drew Gordon (11.0 rebounds per game) in foul trouble. Without Gordon on the floor, the Lobos are not the same type of team on the glass, which is something that could allow for numerous second chance opportunities. Last time these schools faced off, a mere eight days ago, New Mexico won the rebounding battle with relative ease, 43-28. Air Force will need to be much more aggressive on the glass in order to keep things close.
