The Colorado St. Rams football team begins spring practice on Wednesday, March 21, and on Tuesday the school announced that the Rams have added former Cal-Poly defensive secondary coordinator Greg Lupfer to the coaching staff. Lupfer's new role on the Rams has yet to be announced, but details are expected in the Tuesday press conference to announce the move. Lupfer joined on at Cal-Poly in January 2009, and after coaching linebackers in 2009 he transitioned to a role as a coach for the secondary in 2010 and is currently listed as "Defensive Coordinator (Secondary)" on the Cal-Poly website.
Prior to his time at Cal-Poly, Lupfer coached for twelve seasons at Portland State -- seven of those as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach -- and then spent one year as linebackers and special teams coach for Toledo in 2008. Here is what Colorado St. had to say about the hiring on Tuesday morning:
First announcement to come at press conference: Rams have filled vacancy on coaching staff with Greg Lupfer. Details to come today.
