The Colorado St. Rams (15-8, 4-4) square off against a troubled Boise St. Broncos (11-12, 1-7) on Wednesday night, hoping to push back into the top group of the Mountain West Conference.
Chasing the ranked basketball teams at UNLV and Sand Diego State -- as well as the 6-2 MWC New Mexico team --- the Colorado State basketball team have their work cut out for them. With a .482 field goal percentage, the Rams rank as one of the top shooting teams in the NCAA, but their rebound game relies almost entirely on junior PF Pierce Hornung, who is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game in the 2011-12 season.
While playing Mountain West teams this season, the Rams have gone 3-0 whenever Hornung gets 10 or more rebounds, holding their opponents to 60 points or less. When he gets only 9 rebounds or fewer, the Rams have gone 1-4 -- allowing their MWC opponents to score 70 or more points.
The Broncos, meanwhile, come into the game having only recently snapped their eight-game losing streak. They beat the Air Force Falcons on Saturday night, but have gone 2-8 in their last 10 games after starting the season 8-1.
