The Colorado St. Rams (15-7, 4-3) could not complete their season sweep of the TCU Horned Frogs (13-10, 3-4), watching as their precarious late lead slipped away with less than two minutes left in the game.
Junior G Wes Eikmeier clambered back onto the 20-point horse, dropping 26 points -- his first 20-point game since January -- but the Rams simply could not slow the steady drip of the Horned Frogs free throw games. Led by G Hank Thorns (4 for 4 from the line), the TCU players landed an astounding 81.3% of the their free throws -- 13 for 16 -- while the Rams struggled from the line, hitting only 9 of their 15 attempts.
Colorado State led late in the game after leading 38-33 at halftime, but their narrow 67-64 lead disappeared over the final four minutes. With just 1:36 remaining, F Craig Williams landed a pair of free throws, putting the Horned Frogs ahead for good with a 69-71 margin.
After the 71-75 loss, the Rams fall to 4-3 in the Mountain West Conference, 1.5 games out of the three-way tie in first place. They play next Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. ET against the last place Boise St. Broncos.
