The Colorado St. Rams will be able to see the fruits of Jim McElwain's success in a shortened recruiting season on Wednesday during National Signing Day. McElwain became the new Colorado State head coach during the middle of December, just a short few weeks after Steve Fairchild was fired following his third consecutive 3-9 season.
It will be far too early to judge how well McElwain is as a recruiter given the month and a half (minus recruiting dead periods) he had once he assumed the head coaching position. He had his coaching staff take shape over that same time and was able to get a few recruits to commit to the school. And this was while he helped the Alabama Crimson Tide prepare for what was the school's eventual BCS National Championship. That must surely have been involved in McElwain's pitches to recruits.
