After two straight disappointing road losses in Mountain West play, Colorado St. knew it had to deliver an exceptional effort against No. 13 San Diego St. The Rams did exactly that, as they took advantage of a raucous crowd to pull of the 77-58 upset victory over the Aztecs.This victory marked the first win over a ranked opponent for CSU in nine years.
The Rams used an excellent defensive effort to control the potent San Diego St. offense. The Aztecs shot only 31.3 percent from the field in the loss. On the offensive end, Wes Eikmeier led the way with a team-high 19 points. Will Bell added 17 points, while Pierce Hornung controlled the paint with eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
In the loss, Jamaal Franklin was the lone player who was able to get anything going offensively. Franklin scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Chase Tapley and Xavier Thames both scored in double-figures, but combined to shoot only 5-of-28 from the field.
