Colorado State Loses Five Football Players, Three Suspended, Two Ruled Academically Ineligible

Colorado State lost three players to suspension for violating team rules and two to not qualifying academically.

Three players have been suspended indefinitely while two have been ruled academically ineligible from the Colorado St. Ram football team. The players that were suspended were freshman fullback Kivon Cartwright, sophomore wide receiver Byron Steele and redshirt freshman Ezra Thompson. Head coach Steve Fairchild said that the three could practice but not participate in games. Fairchild would not elaborate on what rules the three players broke.

Of the three players, safety Ezra Thompson and wide receiver Byron Steele were to be contributors. Thompson played in 12 games while starting in three of them for the Rams last season. While Steele played in all 12 games with two starts and had 20 receptions and 313 yards and was the second leading returning receiver.

The length of these three players suspension is unknown.

The two players who were ruled academically ineligible and who will be out for the season are redshirt freshman offensive tackle Justin Becker and freshman wide receiver Tony Drake.
