While the AP Top 25 poll results had the Kansas Jayhawks and the Ohio St. Buckeyes as the top two teams in the nation, the latest Coaches poll placed the Texas Longhorns as the No. 2 team behind first-place Kansas. The Jayhawks took the top spot with one more vote (14) than the Longhorns total (13). Ohio St. received three first-place votes as the No. 3 team and the Pittsburgh Panthers (No. 4) had the other first-place vote. Duke closed out the top five for another week.
Neither the Colorado St. Rams nor the UNLV Runnin' Rebels received votes in this poll, though they both did in the AP one.
These current rankings offer the Colorado Buffaloes an interesting opportunity down the final stretch of the regular season. The Buffs play Kansas this Saturday at Phog Allen Fieldhouse and then have a home game a week later against the Longhorns, who could be the No. 1 team at that point. The Buffs are in need of big-time quality wins to improve their RPI in hopes of making it into the tournament. Those will be two tough tests, but don't count out the Buffs.
