Colorado State vs. UNLV: Rams blow out Rebels, earn third win

The Colorado State Rams finally earned their third win of the season after defeating the UNLV Rebels, 33-11, on Saturday in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Both teams have struggled this season and were looking for just their third wins but the Rams were the ones who came ready to play.

The Rams led 27-0 after three quarters before the Rebels were finally able to put up 11 points in the fourth. The Rams displayed a strong running game with Donnell Alexander leading the way with 139 yards rushing on 21 carries and two touchdowns. The team combined for 231 yards on the ground for the game.

Aside from Tim Cornett rushing for 102 yards on 20 carries, the Rams defense did the job against the Rebels offense, holding quarterback Nick Sherry to just 88 yards on 12-for-30 passing and one touchdown with two interceptions. One of his interceptions was returned for a touchdown in the first quarter by Shaquil Barrett. It was one of two defensive touchdowns for the Rams as Shaq Bell returned a fumble for a touchdown in the second quarter.

The Rams improved to 3-7 overall, 2-4 in the Mountain West while the Rebels dropped to 2-9, 2-4 in conference.

Box Score Hero: Alexander gave the Rams someone to count on, as he amassed 139 yards rushing on 21 carries and two touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team will be ranked come next week.
